Rundown
A Poem By- Evelyn Pursley
My lover and I stumbled upon a rundown house
Overgrown with weeds in a quiet corner
Walls wilted, topped with a rusty roof
We exchanged glances; there was much to do
We put into paper our comely home’s visage
Off-white walls to open up the room
Floral curtains for our wide windows
A doorway of sage green
Leading to an unmarked open door
Our house shall withstand rough winds
Rooms absent of screams that rot walls
And no thundering stomps that crack floors
Or doors sealed shut like a prison
We finished our home and blessed it with a vow
Like a hidden paradise kept from tourists
Or a protected tribe untouched by modern times
Let’s hide the key, and conceal the location for a while
